Why ‘Womxn’?

No one singular word will ever be inclusive enough to hold the multitude of identities that cisgender and transgender women of all colors hold.

This is even further complicated when seeking to include those who identify outside of the gender binary.

We recognize there is no "one-size-fits-all" option and as an organization, we do not purport to categorize or ascribe an identity to anyone without their consent.

At BoldHER we have chosen to use the word womxn because we believe it underscores the intersectional approach of our mission. We want our use of womxn to signal how important it is for us to include those who have historically been excluded from white feminist discourse and spaces. Our use of womxn, which linguistically removes 'men,' symbolizes how our empowerment is not defined in relation to/or by men, i.e. the patriarchy.

There are different ways to be a woman and womanhood is experienced in a myriad of ways. We understand how important language is and our use of womxn is how our organization chooses to symbolize its inclusivity for all those who define themselves outside the context of being men.
